Are you talking about AA or DL? This thread seems to have wandered between them?

The DL one was always earn-as-you-go; each $100 spending posted quickly as another 1000 miles, qualification-by-qualification. The AA promo, OTOH, is a traditional affair where there'll be one sweep several weeks later for all spending. Period.
