You don't need a burka, but modest dress is appreciated. I have not traveled in Cairo by myself, but have been there several times with my son. One night we arrived around midnight and our flight out the next day was 5 am. Everyone was quite helpful.

There are several hotels near the airport. Look on line. I'm not sure if there are shuttles, but you should be able to get a taxi easily. I have never been scammed there looking for a taxi.

If you don't have your visa ahead of time, you will need to buy one there. The lines at one of the terminals are confusing. You go to the bank kiosk and buy your visa and then stand in the immigration line. Folks stood in the immigration line first for a long time and then were told to go back and buy the visa. So, ask someone who looks like they know what they are doing.
