And while I'm at it, why does a Z/Y/B fare get the same RDM as an S fare? Looking at the .bomb "Earning Awards" webpage you'd almost think that the RDM table is designed to tell a Z/Y/B customer that "You're no better than a bargain bucket customer".
Let's be real here. The current system over-rewards cheap fares, and under-rewards high-profit customers.
The low COS bonuses do seem strange, don't they? I'm curious, though, putting LH aside, what kinds of COS bonuses do other American carriers offer? My guess is that they're all comparable.
And about the Z/Y/B fare thing, I would imagine COS bonuses, like many things with UA, are not designed to "reward" you for flying what you would have otherwise flown but rather to encourage you to fly in a higher fare class you might
not otherwise have flown. As a dscounted C fare, they might consider "being in C" as the bonus in itself. And as for Y/B fares, they have much lower upgrade costs. Just a thought.
