Not all "group" fares are the same. And, though it might be too late now, but I have seen mixed fare classes in a group purchase. I used to book large trips and the agents knew enough to make sure if some tickets were at the higher fare, that MY NAME and wife were on the higher fare tickets, so we could upgrade.
