I was just checking out reward tickets for a puddle jump from YYZ-BDL to see a buddy of mine and I noticed that one-way rewards were coming up at 22.5 K whilst I could get a return trip for 15K and there is loads of availability!

I'm based in SFO so was going to return to home directly from BDL, hence the one-way. Could I just get a r/t reward and not use the return portion? I'm not sure how throw-away ticketing is looked upon, but this situation seems daft to me, especially on a reward ticket.
