LIN-MXP Connection. How much will it cost and how long will it take?

First some background I have a trip booked with BA starting in MXP and flying to LCY (then a stopover and on to HKG on a J to F GUF2). Since I will be in MIL on the Friday before my flight on Sunday afternoon I am planning a weekend in Rome (I find MIL a bit dull and boring, a view shared by my Milanese colleagues who bugger off for the weekend at the first opportunity, but I digress).

So my plan is for my GF to fly out to Rome to meet me and Iwill join her by flying from LIn to FCO, so far so good. The return journey is where the fun starts. It will cost €250 each to change each ticket from a start in MXP to a start in Rome, I didn't think this was particularly worthwhile so thought we would fly FCO to MXP to connect to the BA flight. A quick check of prices gives fares of c.£190 each on AZ FCO-MXP or c.£60 on AZ FCO-LIN a potential saving of £260 by flying to LIN rather than MXP (and with more choice of flights).

Has anyone done a LIN-MXP connection (particularly on a Sunday afternoon) who can offer advice. Any other creative solutions also welcomed.
