If that is true and you don't care about the upgrade cause you are flying with friends, than there is really no benefit to having your itineraries together or separate. Do whatever you want.

But, if you do make it separate, DL will try to automatically put you on the upgrade list and if you want to make sure you sit together, you have to have them remove you from the list.
