DrivingRain and I share the same opinion about our preferred hotel in Boston. The service at the RC Boston Common is exceptional. Their rooms and particularly their bathrooms stand-out, in size, decoration, and design. The bathrooms have great separate showers and deep soaking tubs. Their club floor staff goes above and beyond, delightful people. If you like to use a gym while traveling the Sports Club LA serves as this hotel's excellent gym. Access is free if you are on the club floor and 10 dollars (well worth it) otherwise. Personally the locations are equally good, i.e. a little farther away from the museums but directly next to the best theaters in town.
Usually I love Four Seasons but unless I had a corporate rate it wouldn't be my first choice. The FS renovation is rather bland and half hearted. The only room category to have undergone a significant renovation was the State suite (large rooms, still small bathrooms) otherwise I would choose a deluxe room with a garden view, in which the bed overlooks the park. Many of the suites have small bedrooms that are without windows. Bathrooms in all room/suite types, except the top two categories, are small with small tubs and shower curtains that do not extend outwards. Service is good but I've had multiple minor mistakes which hasn't occurred at the RC, i.e. wrong order at the Bristol, incorrect room service delivery, no service at the gym. The service is not a deal breaker but in consideration with aforementioned RC positives:room, bathroom, gym...RC becomes my first choice.
