It is worse. You have competition for
both of your armrests in the aforementioned middle seat (in addition to no outside view).
I do agree that 2-4-2 or even 2-5-2 is a far superior layout to 3-3-3.
While I enjoy the view out of airplane windows, I almost always take aisle seats these days except in the rare instance where the window seat is both in a bulkhead or exit row with ample room for ingress and egress without disturbing my seat mate and there is no door or slide intrusion (think 17K, for example, on SQ's 744s).
