I would say that the Laguna gives better Plat recognition, just in a different way. There is no lounge with food as there is in-room butler service and you can get tea served anytime you want (24 hours), much nicer than the lounge. The rooms are nicer than the Westin, and many are lagoon access suites (you can swim out from your room). The Plat recognition is for a nicer room; the Westin doesn't really have nicer rooms (and protects the RBC, not upgrading there), so it has to make do with food and lounge freebies. Which may be valuable for some, but are close to worthless in my estimation.
