Ive been op upped 3 times on the 182 sleeper (JFK)
One was paged to info desk, and twice at check in desk, where both times I was specifically told it was sleeper service and to go and get something to eat in the lounge now (this was pre silver status too!).
Would never turn it down even at gate. It is a relatively short flight, and there is the nightcap and the club kitchen/raid the larder on board.
I am sure the crew would bring you some of the Y/W slop if you explained, asked nicely and were really desperate
