There isn't. If the OP's upgrade hasn't cleared, call UA to cancel the request.
Once that's done, you can log into your kid's MP account and sponsor the upgrade electronically. It will NOT work until the request is cancelled.
Also, don't wait for the 500 milers to clear & then switch at the airport. That's not an easy task.
