I'll have to agree with Driving Rain. The service as the Four Seasons is superb, and it is a fine hotel, but does lack any local character. I can add to the list of other very good hotels, but none are true 5 start. They include XV Beacon and the Boston Harbor Hotel.
I assume you are local to the Boston area so you should certainly know about the local character. Interestingly, as a non local I feel like the FS has the local character down pretty well. Perhaps this is an opinion developed while gazing out the window across the public garden.
Either way it is interesting how a local or visitor perception can be different.
