The airline owes you nothing beyond getting you from airport A to airport B whenever they feel like it. Sucks, but thems the breaks.
A friend of mine lost his long-planned ski vacation at Whistler over President's Day. Was supposed to fly AA on thursday JFK-SEA; flight cancelled due to ripple effects from weather 2 days prior (it wasn't just Jetblue). AA told him they could get him to SEA by Sunday night at the earliest, obviously too late to actually make the trip.
He was lucky to get his fare refunded - the airline certainly wasn't going to pay for his hotel package (which was non-refundable) or his cab fare to/from JFK.
This is life. Buy trip insurance if you'll be out big money because the airline took their sweet time.
