Sounds bizzare indeed, though the reason was given as "the costs of launching a new service for five months would have been prohibitive."
Surely they could just quietly add the service to their online booking engine and get on with it. If it attracts any passengers then good, otherwise who cares. Surely the cost wouldn't be that much.
Or perhaps they are worried about launching a service and then cutting it 5 months later?
Maybe there is a load of grief involved in organising check-in and baggage handling, but surely it isn't THAT difficult.
