I read the article, too. My understanding was that AA was CONSIDERING replacing the MD-80's. If it chose the 737 series, AA COULD have planes within 18 months. The article certainly did NOT say that AA was imminently placing the order. It sounds like they are trying to find financing and negotiate a money-saving deal.
