In that case you would also not consider 99% of Sheratons worldwide as "contemporary". And I dont think there was a deliberate attempt to make that place feel "old"; it was completed in the mid-nineties and designed as an "upscale" Sheraton (Sheraton Towers ?). Do bear in mind that during those days the sleek modern design that we see today wasnt really the order of the day then.

As for the Westin, I wasnt impressed with the lobby. It seems cold and dull compared to other new Westins in the region then eg the former Westin Plaza Singapore (new lobby) and Westin Sydney. The rooms were a welcomed surprise, very modern and pleasant but not "upscale". The Exec Suites however is a very different story, yes its modern "luxury"; you almost feel you are in another hotel.
