What is the Ambassador "upgrade" when in best room?

I have booked a stay at the Wellington Intercontinental using my free weekend night Ambassador certificate. It is for a "special" weekend, so wanted to guarantee a really nice room & get maximum value out of the cert. I have booked the Presidential Suite (there is only 1 of this type at this hotel) @ approx US$900 per night (obviously only paying for one night). The next room type down in the booking engine was a King Club Executive Suite @ approx $US$300 per night.

My question is: Given that there are only 6 Executive Suites in the hotel, what are my chances of booking one of them & getting upgraded to the Presidential Suite? Or are they more likely to just "upgrade" me to a better room of the same type (due to the view etc)?

I have read on this forum that if you book a room & an upgrade is not available they will charge you for the room type below what you booked. I am guessing that this would not apply to the Presidential Suite?

I am currently 50-50 about whether to can the use of the cert in this instance, book & pay for the King Executive Suite for the 2 nights & use the free cert in April in Australia or the US in August/September.

Assuming I stick with the Presidential Suite, what are they likely to give me as my Ambassador benefit given that a room upgrade is not possible? (E.g. maybe wine, food, goodies etc?)

If anyone has struck this situation before & has some advice to offer I would be very grateful.

Cheers
