I remember 10-15 years ago when AA (and maybe other airlines) used to have what they called "starburst" where a single DFW-NRT flight would be marketed as one stop from several different cities. For instance, PHL-DFW-NRT was AA 1101, BOS-DFW-NRT was AA 1201, MIA-DFW-NRT was AA 1401, etc. In reality there was only 1 DFW-NRT flight but it showed originating in several different cities. It is all just a marketing gimmick.
