As I was reading the OP, I was thinking exactly the same thing! Prague-Budapest or the other way around by train, stop in Bratislava for a few hours maybe. If 3 city, then of course, the classic combo would be Prague, Vienna and Budapest.
Another 3 city could be London, Paris and Brussels (linked by Eurostar)
But then I too, glossed over the Oct/Feb thing until Post #3 pointed it out.
