JAL has pretty good coverage of China, so that will help. But oneworld does need (an additional) Chinese carrier. There aren't a lot of good choices, unfortunately.
JAL combined with Dragon Air does provide decent coverage for China, but the intra-China flights are a huge gap right now, and will grow even more important in coming years. Smart move by OW IMHO.
