Kintetsu doesn't run to Kyoto from Nagoya directly, it requires a transfer, to the south, combined with transfers and the amount you visit, its going to take up a bit of time for a day trip.
3 hours via Kintetsu Limited Express (with transfer) vs 40-60 minutes by direct Shinkansen. For Nagoya-Kyoto
As mentioned in evaluating the pass (any pass), distances, access, and time have to be take in into consideration along with the price.
