I was still surfing the list when I saw your message and couldn't wait any longer.

I work in a similar field, and I remember we had our convention with a welcome message and my org's name projected on the wall. It was kind of funny when I was riding the escalator behind some other guests who were commenting about "Wow -- sound like a real fun group! (not)" It was kind of funny -- just like you say.

On the OTHER hand -- and apropos the original topic: It was big news lately up my way when a "fetish fair" convention was held at a major hotel nearby. This was after the fair had been denied at their previous location of several years. (Someone just HAPPENED to discover a zoning problem that ruled out sales of adult products, etc. at the previous location. Funny how that happens...)

So -- let the fetishists do what they will, I guess. They have every right to enjoy what they enjoy. However -- will I ever place a friend or family in that hotel now? No. Ewww! Talk about "who knows where THAT has been?" for pretty much everything in the hotel room.

I do think Vegas is more set up and ready for this type of thing, though. It isn't your average crotchety New Englander's cup of tea, I'm afraid.

Oddly enough, this same hotel is about to unveil a very child-oriented fun park on its grounds to try and attract more local tourism. I wonder how THAT will work out together with the fetish fair, should it return next year.
