Once upon a time, I was a Front Desk Manager.

The clerk was supposed to call you shortly after check in. S/he didn't, but it's on the checklist that every guest gets a "Welcome" call. They have a list, and they have to check the box that the call was delivered to every incoming guest - listed on the "Welcome Call" sheet that they turn in at the end of their shift.

Usually there's a cutoff, like no calls after 10 PM. And your's was delivered just before the cutoff time, just before the clerk left for the night at 11 PM.

Unfortunately, you fell victim to the "Can't think, can only follow orders" clerk. That lack of critical thinking skill drove me crazy.
