I can imagine that there would be people who might WANT to book during various conventions/conferences.

I respectfully disagree, I think most people would NOT want to book during conventions and such and by posting the listings they would lose other sales. Hotels have to book conventions and conferences and such or they'd lose money. And for people that are into certain areas, then I'm sure they already know what shows are where and when. Even if people want to search for shows it's an easy time to find out where they are.
Plus a lot of chains do not have individual sites, and if they do most people are booking from the main corporate site anyways. If they put it on their site what is expedia and priceline and such supposed to do, also list out conventions and such, it would be a logistical nightmare to co-ordinate that IMHO.
For you folks in the mainland it's pretty simple, give a call on the 1-800 numbers and ask if you are wondering about it. For overseas folks it's a little harder.
