Transfering money from abroad with no local account?

Hi,

A friend is going to be touring Europe and collecting money as she goes. (I think she's a mob enforcer or something )

Rather than carry cash around, she'd love to find a way to deposit money to her home account in NY (HSBC) or do an EFT into it, but I don't think that's too simple. You certainly can't just do it with a card.

Does anyone have any experience with this or any suggestions?

One idea is to find a business associate who will do an EFT from a local account, but of course there are risks.

But if she does that, in my experience, I would say she should open a Euro account in NY and do the exchange into dollars in the US, not buy dollars in Europe and then send those. Right?

The figure is probably in the neighborhood of 10k, so not unimaginable to carry, but I'd like to find her another option.

Thanks!

Edited to add: This will be from multiple locations/countries, so I don;t think that opening an account somewhere is a good option.
