TG and Upgrades

Well, we arrived in Singapore CHANGI checking in for our NRT flight via BKK. I asked about upgrades and was told that it would cost USD165 from Y to J. We were excited as they had scheduled the 777. When we reached the gate to check Voila a surprise. Plane downgraded to a nasty airbus 300. What an experience, and that was a price to pay. But have to say that service was good on this old plane.

For the BKK-NRT portion, I inquired at checkin and was told that Y was overbooked by -5. I asked about the possibility of an UG and was told to check at the gate. We checked in the lounge and was told that she could try for us but after a call she was told to wait at the gate.
Well nothing happened at the gate either so we boarded and sat at our exit row seats. As I predicted here came the 5 overbooked passangers 2 of whom were allocated our exact same seats that is 47j and k.

The stewardess takes all 4 passes and comes back to ask us "if we would mind sitting in business class". That is would mind sitting in business class". That is really odd, why would not they have done this UG prior to boarding and perhaps given their ROP elites priority ? Mind boggling.

We are now seated in the RCC in NRT and waiting to board our flight to BKK lets see what happens on this flight, there is no overbooking as I inquired upon checkin.
