So I flew KLM in Europe Select again...
I had to get from FRA to AMS on very short notice and the choices were either LH or KL. Lufthansa had a choice of fully flexible Y (expensive) or C (even more expensive), while KL offered only Europe Select (less expensive than LH Y). The timing of the KL was more favorable too, so I opted for that.
Booked the ticket online, and got my confirmation in the mail shortly thereafter. Booking was not trivial as you have to change the country to Germany first, which didn't take for a few tries. And there was a surcharge for paying by credit card as well, but at least it worked in the end.
I'd almost booked it for the wrong day though, although I could have sworn I was checking dates throughout. Then I tried to check in online. It didn't work. I got either "general errors," or incomplete input screens ("enter the airport you're flying from" without a corresponding field). Nor could my booking reference be found, and my e-ticket number likewise ended up fruitless. I tried again a few hours later, but with the same result. Then I got an e-mail reminder from KL to check in online, and it still didn't work.
No problems at the airport though with checking in. The agent said she could find nothing wrong with the booking. Ah well... just another random KL website mystery.
ES in the F100 was pretty empty, so at least no-one sat next to me. But the highlight really was the meal. The ES foodbox contained the following breakfast:
Spinach quiche served with a creamy green pea puree
Stewed apple and walnuts with a fig and port compote
I mean, seriously, who invents this stuff?! It was utterly revolting just to look at, and even without lifting the plastic lids a most pungent miasma managed to escape from this parody of food. What's next? Braised squid ... with a thistle sauce? Stir-fried beak of platypus accompanied by a reduction of beetle blood and rind of yam? Minced pigeon feathers arrabiata?
Ye gods.
None of the victims of ES ate any of it as far as I could tell.
I'm so looking forward to my ES flight to LCY tomorrow morning (a break from VLM as I need to fly back from LBA, and it's cheaper to have the outbound on KL too.)
