I've stayed in nearly all of the Orlando MVCI's. We usually just do paid stays since they are very inexpensive outside of the peak seasons. (We have a bunch of family that we visit in Orlando, so we just go whenever Southwest their $49 MCI-MCO deals.) September and October are two of our favorite months to go.
....So definitely check the promotional rates before you blow 100k points. A two-bedroom unit can be had for $130-150 per night. One-bedroom somewhat less. These are full points-earning rates with no timeshare tour requirements attached. (If you like to play the timeshare-preview game, there are lots of opportunities to do so.)
Anyway, the MVCI's themselves... We like Grande Vista and Cypress Harbor as our favorite two. Sabal, Royal, and Imperial Palms a slight notch lower. For us, that's more due to location and atmosphere than anything. The three "Palms" locations are adjacent to a giant Marriott convention hotel - good if you want more bars, restaurants, and bustle. Not as nice if you just want to kick back and relax in a quiet setting. All five of the properties are clean and well-managed.
The full 1-bedroom suites are roomy. The studios are NOT roomy - they are lockoff units next to the 1-bedroom suites. If you are looking at Rewards stays, make sure you are looking at 1-bedroom suites at a minimum - not a Studio.
But my final take is this: if we didn't have family there, there's no way we'd go to Orlando to begin with. The only attraction there is amusement parks - and you're right: toddlers won't get anything out of them. If it were me, I'd look for something closer than the beach. Orlando is around an hour away from the nearest beach (Cocoa, I believe).
