MollyNYC, that is a funny story. I can just hear that waiter now. However, isn't "glace" = "ice cream"? And "glaçons" = ice? I have had several French teachers tell me of this mix-up, when they have ordered a cup of ice and received ice cream.

crème glacée= ice cream but most people will say "la/une glace"
glaçons = cubes de glace = Ice cubes
