Maple Leaf Lounge Access for 1 Guest--Going to Charge

Any Elites have trouble with bringing in a guest to a lounge. Last night, at YEG, I went to the MLL thinking that I had free access for one guest. The agent was about to try to charge me for my guest then looked at the time (was closing in 1/2 hour) so said I won't charge you this time. I was a bit puzzled but wasn't going to debate the issue since she let me in. I wondered (as a newly minted downgraded Elite ), whether I had read the rules wrong. I don't think I have (pasted below) since they seem quite clear--anyone else ever have a "confrontation' over this?
