I guess the question still is for me whether to take the CA or CZ flights at 3:30 or the later CA flight at 6:30...I don't think there's much of a question for the marginal difference whether to "splurge" on F vs. C. Also, the 6PM flight is a full dinner service in F whereas the 3PM flights are listed as "snacks", even in F...is that a material difference...the last intra China flight I took in F wasn't too good for my Western, but Chinese appreciative tastes in F from PVG to SHZ.
F on a CA or CZ 320 (i.e. your 6p flight) is really no different than F on a UA 320 or an AA 737. What's more, if I were on the same flight, I'd be more comfortable than you in my exit row... and my stomach would arguably be happier as well. The afternoon flights I referenced are a different matter entirely because even the most spartan 777s aren't bad up front... plus some of the newer configurations are downright nice.
