To update:
1. NW replied that they "cannot" discuss these things prospectively but (cough-cough) if in fact I was 40 miles short of gold at the year's end, I should call them.
2. The point was mooted since I was able to book the last planned trip for the year on CO metal instead that will garner enough NW miles. The down side is spending three hours in a jungle jet to and from IAH to get to and from DEN.
