AA still had the cockpit camera running in the mid to late 80's. I used to enjoy watching those approaches into AUS Robert Mueller airport as you came down and crossed I-35 right before touchdown. The camera was the cockpit looking over the center console and the throttles. You could see the Capt.’s right shoulder, the FO's left shoulder and out the cockpit window. I always heard a funny story about one flight where the Capt was wearing the right sleeve of a gorilla suit. All the pax's could see was this big hairy arm and hand on the throttles during takeoff. After the gear was raised the gorilla held his hand out and the FO placed a banana in it. That was the last thing the pax's saw because the crew then turned the camera off. My AA friends tell me there was management on board who saw these antics. The stunt earned the Capt and FO 30 days off.
