Yes indeed, although some crews happily oblige.
Now here's the funny thing: on AMS-ACC and AMS-LOS, both around 6 hours, they provide the full meal service except no dessert trolley: instead you get a tray with both a sweet dessert AND cheese.
Because asking the passenger what choice they would like takes too long...
And on AMS-JNB, you have to choose...
I flew AMS-JNB about two weeks ago: same damn salmon starter, shrimp risotto was OK though. My gripe is that on all the long haul flights ex-AMS they serve the same meals!!
So that salmon is really getting boring.
How much would a second starter option be?
Thank goodness for the odd time I fly to Japan: at least you get extra sushi and a Japanese choice...
