I have searched the forums but could not find a clear answer...

I am coming in on a AA flight from NRT and connecting to a LAX bound flight. The connection time is only 1:45 minutes and I am a bit worried that this is not enough time esp. since I will have checked baggage and I will be flying in Y (sadly). As the flight to LAX is packed, what are the chances of this routing working out? Should I just ship large portions of my gear so I only have a carry on?
