If you experience a declined transaction just call Card Serives immediatly and they will tell you why it has been declined, and then set the system to force authorisation if you try it again.

IMO this is a very very useful feature of buying power available when using Amex, and is a service very difficult to obtain from Mastercard and Visa issuers, as many of their authorisation systems are not as flexible as the AMEX system. To update it on-the-fly to force through a transaction at your request, and satisfy the vendor of verification information is excellent!
Thanks for the info. I just tried this. AMEX were kind enough to do this for me, but they told me that the merchant/vendor has to call in for authorisation. If I order online, through an automated system, then most likely it will not go through.

In this case, i am trying to make a purchase online, via the Apple Store. I enter my US details and then Apple Store tells me that the details held by AMEX are different to the ones I supplied to Apple. I rang AMEX and they could see the transaction, AMEX approved it, but looks like Apple systems are not picking up the secondary address. AMEX told me that Apple would have to ring through to do get an authorisation. I doubt whether Apple would do it, actually they won't. they use the same automated approval that is online.

Any ideas what could i do next?

Thanks
