Just goes to show how difficult it is for hotels to guess what we want - I actually PREFER a first floor (ground floor in Europe) room. Particularly when there isn't an elevator. My gammy leg gives me problems going down steps so give me the bottom floor every time! I've been travelling for nearly 30 years and I have never felt less safe on the ground than on higher floors.
