I've been flying JL economy for 20 years and a couple of weeks ago tried a LAX-NRT flight on ANA instead. The food was not nearly as good, and for my connections on Thai and United the food was even less palatable. I've had both Japanese and Western meals on JL and they are both good. I usually opt for Japanese, but the Western style dishes are also very good. You can choose on the spot. They will show you your choices and you can see what looks best. Enjoy!
