If you can stretch to Manhattan Beach, a pretty good (bordering on great) Italian restaurant is Talia's. It has been there for decades and the food and decor has slowly migrated to become quite upscale (like most of manhattan beach). It is a date restaurant, filled with beautiful people most of the time, but the food is good enough to make it worthwhile.
