AMEX holders should remember that this group exists to help you if you find yourself in a bind while traveling (including arranging for emergency medical, legal and financial assistance).

I'm on my way to Miami, and realized as I left my office for the airport that I had left my wallet at home (it's in my heavy overcoat, which I certainly didn't want with me in Miami). I have my passport with me, which will get me on the plane, and plenty of cash, but I have no credit cards. So I called AMEX Global Assist, who are taking care of everything. They are coordinating directly with my hotel so that the hotel manually can put through my charges. They really are terrific.

(BTW, I called the main Platinum Customer Service line first, before I remembered that there is a separate Global Assist number, and the agent's response was more or less, "What do you want me to do about it?" After she put me on hold, I hung up on her and called the Global Assist folks directly, who promptly took care of everything.)
