I was on an HP 320 on 2/21 (PHXABQ) and a 737 yesterday (ABQPHX). The 320 was definitely better, but the 737 really wasn't too bad, but these flights are only about an hour. I've certainly been on worse (HP and other airlines).
Back in early Sept 2001 (before Sept 11), I was returning IAHPHX, had no status. Somehow the gate agent put me in 1A on an HP 737. Since I was nearly the last one on the plane, the pax passing thing wasn't a major issue. I do remember the FA's sitting right across. The pilot had the cockpit door open and I could see out the front windows most of the flight. I had volunteered for the PHXIAH flight, they put me to TUS, then CO to IAH, and assured me my return wouldn't be affected. Well, I had to jump through hoops to get my bp when I checked in on the return. When the gate agent took my bp and tore it up before I boarded, I was about to spaz, he handed me the new one (in 1A, F), I didn't even look at it until I was nearly on the plane.
Someone had mentioned that HP didn't have financial difficulties? Don't forget that HP was the 1st airline to receive the government backed loans after 9/11 (McCain was a huge help in that). They got out of several aircraft deliveries.
