The airport was designed to cater for the Boeing 747-400.
For your information, and from memory only, a 747-400 at 285 tonnes landing mass can stop on a runway of around 1350 metres but don't expect to use the tyres again. I would not suggest that you try this at London City, given yesterday's fiasco with a 6 wheeled aircraft!
Isn't autobrake 6 a wonderful thing.
