I've done that. Not intentionally but when I got to the top of the escalator I realised that it would be faster to immigrate and then go to Zone R so I just stepped through the queues (they were long but there weren't too many strands) and walked to immigration, muttering to a lady in green as I went "I just want to reach immigration", who didn't seem to mind at all.
