Seat selection when booking through travel agent

I booked a roundtrip ticket (LAX-TPE, TPE-LAX) through a travel agent. The agent told me that I cannot select the seats until I check in 72 hours before departure. I check the FT forums, and it appears that there no online seat selection for economy class tickets booked through travel agents. The tickets simply say "window".

QUESTIONS:
1. Can I call the SQ office in the United States to select the seats?

2. If #1 is no, will I have a problem getting window or aisle seats if I do online check-in 72 hours prior to departure?

3. Am I able to select the seats for the TPE-LAX segment when I check in online for the LAX-TPE segment?

4. If #3 is no, will I have a problem finding a window or aisle seat if I check in at the airport 3 hours prior to departure for the TPE-LAX segment? I may not have internet connection in my hotel room in TPE.

Thanks!
