The problem is with some people having the power to simply decide people are "fruitcakes" and then hassling them.
People that have an economic incentive not to behave in such a thuggish manner are much less likely to do so. Unfortunately, the police and TSA have no such incentives towards good behavior. They can do whatever they want, because they hold the bigger guns and face basically zero economic hardship for bad behavior (such as hassling people for their IDs).
If you don't want your travel day to be difficult, don't support unnecessary government agents having the power to make it difficult.
