SJC-NRT-SJC was difficult to upgrade as well. Still doesn't necessarily correlate with making money.

Yes, 40 pax on N inventory tickets trying to upgrade with miles will fill the J cabin quite quickly (and could make upgrading difficult) but it doesn't mean that AA is making a dime off them.
