So, I have been thinking about just booking a night at a local Embassy and letting my kids go swimming. Kind of expensive for some pool time but it seems that I would make diamond and I am wondering if it is worth it.

When you went from Gold to Diamond, did you notice anything different? I stay primarily at Embassy Suites but sometimes Hilton.
The answer is yes, I have seen a difference, especially when I need to use the Diamond force to get into a hotel or use rewards.

Check the Award Tier tab on your account, you may not have to get that extra night in Feb, it may show 2 nights by end of March or something similar that won't make you do a "Bed Run" to make status. If not, book a cheap Hampton or see if you can find a 'opportunity' award (7500 pts.) and that will count towards status.
