I guess what we take from this is that service has expanded in terms of being available 6 or 7 days a week, but that instead of being non-stop they will be 1 stop service. It will be interesting to see what aircraft they use. How are these new 777's configured?
Makes me glad I went ahead and booked NH from IAD-BKK via NRT. Much more convenient than getting up before the chickens to fly to JFK to make the connection to TG. I think that UA actually has some useful connections to JFK on their UAX partners. I know there are a couple of flights from IAD to JFK that are useable.
I agree that they really did a poor job with these routes regarding connections and lack of code shares. But if they had pretty full planes I suppose they didn't need to bother.
The JFK direct gets you in to BKK at least 6 hours or so ahead of the connecting services do. Arriving at 4 PM is so much better than 10:30 or 11:30 PM.
