They are trying to con me out of a further €4 to check a bag in (online in advance, otherwise it's €8 at the airport). My question is that if I do OLCI what are my chances of getting away with taking it as cabin baggage at the gate? I may have a connection to make at DUB so don't want the hassle of having to sort this out at a late stage and maybe not making my flight.

Cheers for any advice on this from any regular LHR-DUB travellers.

Hi
Well I learned my lesson the hard way. Went along to checkin and they looked at my bag and made me put it thru the system. I was at the gate and noticed a few folk with larger bags and nicely asked how the man got the bag thru.

He told me he used the selfservice checkin service. Since then I always use the selfservice checkin (from DUB outwards). For flights to DUB I use the OLCI service.

Works for me everytime.
